Pantone Colour Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman goes on to say: ‘Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while it’s grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.’
Since 1990 the Pantone Colour Institute have selected an annual colour to predict the trend for the year ahead. Last year’s Pantone colour of the year was 18-3224 Radiant Orchid.

This year’s colour is a deep and rich red-brown. The vintage-style tone, which reflects recent Interior design trends, is not an altogether safe bet for Pantone and has resulted in a few strong opinions across Twitter. Colour is such an important aspect of influencing opinions and feelings, the potential risk of using this colour would be the association people have with rust or other unsavoury coincidences.
Pantone’s colour forecasts are aimed to span across various industries, so it’s not easy to make predictions across the board. We can see this year’s colour being more popular in the fashion and interior design industries in 2015.
