Lamination & Spot UV

Lamination finishes provide many advantages to the user, such as being tear resistant, more durable and stain resistant. Lamination is a plastic film which is applied to printed sheets to one or both sides, offering enhancement and protection to printed materials.

At Far’n’Beyond we offer a wide range of laminates from matt and gloss to the premium laminates such as soft touch and anti-scuff resistant films.

Our spot UV and scodix finishes offer an alternative print finish to further enhance your printed materials such as book or magazine covers, packaging, menus, business cards or other printed matter.

Matt Lamination

Matt lamination gives an elegant effect that offers great quality for products where image and first impressions mean everything, which is why it is a common choice for many.

Unlike gloss lamination, matt lamination can provide a softer look, as it can produce lower contrast on darker colours. Whilst forming a protective coating over the print, it does not provide the same level of protection as gloss lamination and can be prone to scratching.

Gloss Lamination

With gloss lamination the shine finish gives the artwork a much more striking look, the light reflects off the laminate, and gives colours, in particularly blacks, a richer depth.

Gloss lamination is more high profile, it adds a high gloss sheen often used on brochure covers, menus, magazine covers or presentation folders offering a high impact option.

Gloss lamination is also a durable choice as it repels dirt, scratches and fingerprints with ease. If the laminate does come in contact with dirt, it is easily wiped clean due to its glossy texture.

Soft Touch Lamination

The texture of soft-touch laminate is difficult to describe in written context – many users describe it as feeling like velvet or a smooth suede material. However you were to describe this, it is a truly unique finish with its matt appearance and luxurious feel.

The soft-touch finish definitely gets noticed and always gets an inquisitive response to its unique and unexpected feel.

Spot UV

Spot UV is one of the most popular printing techniques available. This is a relatively simple production method. The UV (ultraviolet light) is used to instantly cure the glossy varnish you see shining in spot UV print area. Because spot UV has a gloss finish, it can be applied as a pattern across the entire artwork without impacting the readability of any wording.

Spot UV is mainly used for its decorative effect as light catches the partially coated portion of the paper on a piece – rather than all-encompassing protective coverage. These coatings are environmentally friendly as they are free of solvents and do not emit VOCs.

Scodix

A clear spot UV polymer produces outstanding super high gloss effects that add value to any product. Unlike traditional spot UV varnish, this print enhancement offers variable densities in one pass whilst ensuring registration accuracy using the on board camera system. Polymer height can be adjusted thus creating amazing tactile effects that jump off the sheet.

With only minimal setup required to produce stunning effects across a wide range of substrates, this is a low cost alternative to the spot UV process on digital volumes.
