Yorkshire Day

Yorkshire Day

If you aren’t from Yorkshire or don’t live here, then you might be thinking that a day dedicated to celebrating Yorkshire has no relevance or interest to you.

We are hoping to prove you wrong and get your attention with some fascinating facts and stunning photos from our beautiful county.

We are very proud to be a Yorkshire Marketing Agency. Our HQ is on the outskirts of Leeds and the vast majority of our products are produced here. As far as we’re concerned there is no better place to be located to support our clients throughout the UK and the rest of the world.

Did you know Yorkshire is almost a country in itself – the population is as large as Scotland and geographically half the size of Belgium. We also have our own flag, our own dialect and many unique culinary delights.

So, what makes Yorkshire “one of Britain’s most appealing destinations today”? (according to travel experts the Lonely Planet)

Our Top Ten of Yorkshire

1. Food

Not only is Yorkshire home to the legendary Yorkshire pudding, Parkin and Wensleydale cheese, the county also has some of the UK’s finest restaurants and pubs. In fact, there are more Michelin starred restaurants in Yorkshire than in any county outside of London.

2. Football

The World’s first ever football club – Sheffield FC – was formed in 1857. Meaning Yorkshire is the home of Football! The club has developed a grass roots environment and now has more than 12 teams dedicated to local football enthusiasts.

3. Tea

It’s not possible to mention Yorkshire without thinking of one of our best exports – tea. Tea isn’t just a drink to us Yorkshire folk, it’s something we take very seriously and it’s pretty much a way of life! The most recognised brand is Yorkshire Tea, but Tetley Tea also started out in Yorkshire.

4. Tourism & Travel

There are many villages, dales, national parks, moors, coasts, beaches and cities to visit, which are all stunning.

Yorkshire is home to the best hotel in the UK – Rudding Park in Harrogate, as voted by Harper Bazaar and Visit England.

5. The First Female Dr Who

Jodie Whittaker - the 13th and the first female doctor in Doctor Who was born in Skelmanthorpe and has kept true to her roots with a born and bred Yorkshire accent in the series.

6. The Best Place to Live in the UK

The beautiful city of York has been named by the Sunday Times as the best place to live in the UK. No surprise given the culture, historical significance and culinary delights of the city.

7. The Cities

As well as the spectacular Dales and Moors, Yorkshire is the location of several impressive cities including Hull, Sheffield and the historically fascinating City of York. Leeds is the UK’s third-largest city and the biggest financial centre outside London.

8. Rugby

The town of Huddersfield is the birthplace of the Rugby League. In 1895, a meeting of 21 Lancashire and Yorkshire clubs set up the Northern Rugby Football Union, which later became the Rugby Football League.

8.1 Leeds Knights Ice Hockey

We are proud supporters of the NIHL National Division League winning Leeds Knights Ice Hockey Team.

There is no doubt that Yorkshire is full of talented sports teams and individual stars!

9. Music

Yorkshire is the birthplace of many artists including Def Leppard, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, The Human League, The Beautiful South, Zayn Malik.

Leeds is home to one of the world’s biggest annual music festivals – Leeds Festival and the state of the art First Direct Arena.

10. Beer

There are more than 50 breweries located in Yorkshire. From historic breweries with oak-timbered ceilings to microbreweries with state-of-the-art stainless steel, between them, all the Yorkshire brewers are producing hundreds of varieties of real ale.

If it’s not clear already, we love our county of Yorkshire and are thrilled that we get a day in the year to celebrate everything about it!

We have done a lot of work over the past few years with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, recently walked to raise funds for Leeds Childrens Charity and planted trees in our incredible county.
