The Far'n'Beyond team have been busy with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, helping to encourage native wildflowers in woodland at Rothwell Country Park.
As a business, we are keen to make a positive difference to the environment, making changes to reduce waste, remove plastic packaging and avoid importing from the Far East.
One of our greatest successes has been our Branded Seed Packets and Wildflower Bee Bomb products. Made in the UK and fulfilled by us, they are a great alternative to stress balls or plastic giveaways.
Our recent volunteering with YWT took us to Rothwell Country Park, where the goal was to remove as many balsam plants as possible from the woodland.
Himalayan balsam is a tall invasive species with short roots that outcompete native plants, blocking light and causing soil erosion along waterways. This sprawling plant reduces biodiversity and threatens UK wildlife, particularly native wildflowers, which provide vital habitat.
With this in mind and undeterred by nettle stings and insect bites, the Far'n'Beyond team took on the challenge and removed as much balsam as possible.

Being able to see how much balsam we cleared was so satisfying and we look forward to returning over the Summer to see the benefits to the woodland and its wildlife."

As with any team-building activity, there were a fair few laughs and shared stories, which, along with a visible sense of achievement, helped make light work of the physically gruelling task.
Giving native species the space they need to flourish was the mission of our day out in the wild, but it was also part of our #30DaysWild activities and an opportunity to reflect on the importance of nature to our wellbeing.
Rothwell Country Park, a reclaimed colliery site, now serves as a green haven for wildlife and the community. The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust manages this park, focusing on conserving its diverse habitats.
From wetlands to woodlands, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust works tirelessly to protect and enhance these environments, ensuring they support a rich variety of wildlife.
