Far'n'Beyond Plant Trees in Yorkshire

The Far'n'Beyond team enjoyed a fabulous day planting trees and nurturing existing saplings with Make it Wild as part of our Tree Project Initiative.

Based in North Yorkshire, Make it Wild supports several young forests in the area and is committed to protecting nature with a clear, sustainable strategy, which has seen their work recognised with several key awards.

Volunteering in Yorkshire

Our day started in the beautiful Kirk Hammerton at Windmill Hill Nature Reserve, a location that had been changed due to flooding. This highlighted the importance of tree planting and supporting our natural environment.

On arrival, we were met by Christopher, one of the founders of Make it Wild, who provided training before we started our work on several tasks.

The first phase of the day was spent preparing cardboard sheets from old biodegradable boxes. These sheets would be used to flatten grass around newly planted trees. The cardboard mulch helps prevent quick-growing grass and other vegetation from competing with the young trees for nutrients and water or blocking valuable sunlight and smothering the saplings.

Helping Trees Thrive in Yorkshire

We then began to help with the management of the existing woodland before preparing and planting new trees. The young saplings were a mix of Aspen, Grey Willow and Alder

Native to the British Isles since the Ice Age, they provide food for midges, moths and caterpillars across the species; in addition to habitat for many bird varieties, they also offer early nectar for bees. The Alder tree is also perfect for boggy and waterlogged land as it doesn't rot.

The Tree Project Initiative

The Tree Project is a Far'n'Beyond & Really Good Branding Initiative that rewards clients for choosing products that reduce waste, are made from recyclable materials, or offer a positive alternative by planting a tree.

Working exclusively with organisations that plant and look after trees in the UK, such as Make it Wild, we are able to see and appreciate the investment in our future.

"The Far'n'Beyond team thoroughly enjoyed our day with Make it Wild, helping to plant trees only a short distance from our studio that we can enjoy for the next thirty to sixty years.

Working hard to develop eco-conscious products that are made responsibly using local partners is a key priority at Far'n'Beyond, and activities like this really bring home the importance of these decisions.

Thank you to 'Make it Wild' for looking after us and dedicating their time to such a great cause."

Adam Moody, Far'n'Beyond

For the Far'n'Beyond team, it was great to get a better understanding of the process, how long it takes to create a forest and the benefits they bring to the ecosystem.

Supporting the Environment

Make it Wild are working to secure our future with guaranteed natural woodland in spaces across Yorkshire and the UK. With a strong vision and focused team, it is great to see what they have achieved alongside their vision for the future.
