We were pleased to be able to support Sherburn-in-Elmet Scouts in developing their online presence with a brand-new website to raise awareness of the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorer groups in the town.
Our goal was to create a website that would effectively manage and update the full programme of events and activities across several groups and meeting times, all run by volunteers. This website would also serve as a key information hub and a platform for communication with parents looking to introduce their children to the Scouting family.
Scouts is the largest mixed youth organisation in the UK, welcoming members from 4 -to 18 years old. A registered charity, 1st All Saints Sherburn in Elmet Scouts, was founded in 1948 and has a long history of serving the community.
Working closely with the leadership team, we discussed the website's key objectives, the existing membership processes, communication between parents and leaders and the opportunities the website would provide to make scouts more accessible.
The primary goal was to provide a central place that would include all the relevant information about the groups and session times, how to sign up to Scouts, and links to the Online Scout Manager platform (OSM) for members and official social media channels.

With access to the Scouting brand guidelines and sitemap agreed upon, we began developing the design, with functionality and useability at the centre of our strategy.
Providing an easy-to-manage website was critical to the project's success, so we focussed on the areas where change is likely, such as group meeting times, group leaders and news.
The result is that users can easily add, edit or remove this information, which will automatically update across the website.
Being built on WordPress, one of the world's most popular platforms, group members will likely have experience with its infrastructure.
We also advised on other changes, including a switch to a shorter, more memorable domain name (sherburnscouts.org). We also provided on-page SEO, which again can be automatically generated when users add new content.
We are delighted to be able to support Sherburn-in-Elmet Scouts and the fantastic opportunities they provide for children in the local area.
The group has already seen a positive increase in engagement through the website and looks forward to continuing to develop the resource.
