This year’s selection presents a vibrant and futuristic colour, described by Pantone as a ‘blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.’
Purple is often associated with creativity and spirituality, a theme that appears evident through Pantone’s presentation of Ultra Violet, with vivid, dynamic nebular visuals and motion graphics.
Many will be familiar with ‘Ultraviolet’ light, which makes up a small output of natural light from the sun and is also harnessed for specialist lighting equipment. Although purple fruits and flowers can be quite common, purple is a bit of a rare entity throughout nature, perhaps it is the partly down to the rarity which makes it such an eye-catching and desirable colour. It also has a mysterious and magical quality. The mystical association strikes a chord with the nebular theme, as space and astronomy undoubtable presents us with many unknown mysteries.
Don’t be surprised to see this radiant tone of purple appear more throughout 2018. Pantone possess a large cross-industry influence and reach.
